BMW has updated the 7 Series with refined styling, a redesigned high-tech interior, and an expanded lineup of electrified powertrains. The facelift introduces the new Panoramic iDrive system, upgraded battery technology for the i7, and enhanced driver assistance features.

BMW has introduced an updated version of its flagship 7 Series (G70), aiming to build on the model’s recent market success with revised styling, a redesigned interior, and upgraded technology.

The facelift retains the controversial split-headlight design but refines its execution. The signature kidney grille has grown larger and more angular while keeping its illuminated contour. The daytime running lights are now integrated more closely with the grille, while the main headlight units have been repositioned lower in the bumper with a more vertical layout. At the rear, slimmer taillights reflect the brand’s latest Neue Klasse design language, complemented by a redesigned bumper and updated wheel designs ranging from 20 to 22 inches. Overall dimensions remain virtually unchanged at 5,395 mm in length, with a 3,215 mm wheelbase.

Inside, the 7 Series receives a major overhaul with the introduction of the new BMW Panoramic iDrive system. It features a reworked dashboard layout with a head-up-style Panoramic Vision display, a 17.9-inch central touchscreen, and a new four-spoke steering wheel. The system runs on BMW OS X and integrates an AI-based voice assistant powered by Amazon Alexa+. A 14.6-inch passenger display is now included as standard, alongside premium features such as leather upholstery, four-zone climate control, a Bowers & Wilkins sound system, and a panoramic roof.

Rear-seat passengers continue to benefit from the optional 31.3-inch BMW Theatre Screen with 8K resolution, now upgraded with touchscreen functionality. It supports video streaming, gaming, video conferencing, and even laptop mirroring, paired with an available 36-speaker premium audio system and Executive Lounge seating.

The update also introduces a new electronic architecture shared with upcoming Neue Klasse models. This enables the BMW Symbiotic Drive system, which consolidates advanced driver assistance features into a Level 2 autonomous driving package. Interestingly, BMW has stepped back from previously available Level 3 autonomy due to regulatory complexity and cost considerations, instead focusing on improved usability and features such as enhanced automated parking.

Under the skin, the 7 Series continues to use the CLAR platform, now paired as standard with adaptive air suspension. Optional upgrades include Adaptive Chassis Control and Adaptive Chassis Control Professional with active roll stabilization and rear-wheel steering, enhancing both comfort and handling.

The powertrain lineup remains extensive, covering gasoline, diesel, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric variants. Combustion models feature mild-hybrid inline-six engines, including the 735, 740, and 740d xDrive, with outputs ranging from 290 hp to 405 hp. A future V8-powered M Performance variant is expected to replace the current BMW 760i xDrive.

Plug-in hybrid versions include the 750e xDrive with up to 496 hp and an electric range of 82 km, as well as the more powerful M760e xDrive delivering 620 hp and up to 80 km of electric driving.

The all-electric BMW i7 also receives significant upgrades, including a new 112.5 kWh battery with next-generation cylindrical cells. The lineup includes:

i7 50 xDrive — 461 hp, up to 728 km range i7 60 xDrive — 551 hp, up to 727 km range i7 M70 xDrive — 689 hp, 0–100 km/h in 3.8 seconds

Production will take place at BMW’s plant in Dingolfing, Germany, with sales starting in July. Pricing in Europe begins at approximately €117,900, while the top-tier i7 M70 xDrive starts at around €182,400. An optional Protection package adds factory armor meeting VR9 ballistic standards, offering protection against high-powered rifle fire.
