Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the all-new C-Class Electric W520, a larger and significantly heavier electric sedan positioned as a rival to BMW’s latest EV offerings. Built on the dedicated MBEA platform, the model features up to 490 hp, ultra-fast charging capability, and a driving range of up to 762 km.

On April 20, Mercedes-Benz held the global premiere of its new electric sedan, the C-Class Electric W520, during a special event in South Korea. Western media have already described the model as a key competitor to the latest generation of the BMW i3.

The C-Class Electric is built on the dedicated MBEA platform, designed exclusively for electric vehicles without any provision for internal combustion engines. As a result, the car features typical modern EV proportions, including a short front overhang and a long cabin that maximizes interior space.

Although formally part of the C-Class family, the electric sedan is noticeably larger than the current combustion-powered version. Overall length reaches 4,883 mm, width is 1,892 mm, height is 1,502 mm, and the wheelbase measures 2,962 mm.

The model will be offered with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain producing a combined 490 hp. Energy is supplied by a 94.5 kWh lithium-nickel-manganese-cobalt (Li-NMC) battery, which supports ultra-fast charging at up to 330 kW. According to Mercedes-Benz, charging from 10% to 80% takes just 22 minutes.

Performance is comparable to high-performance sports sedans, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately four seconds.

Instead of a traditional radiator grille, the C-Class Electric features a distinctive illuminated panel composed of 1,050 individual LEDs, reinforcing the futuristic design language. Inside the cabin, the dashboard is dominated by the MBUX Hyperscreen, a full-width glass panel integrating the digital instrument cluster along with central and passenger infotainment displays.

Official driving range on a full charge is rated between 592 and 762 km, depending on configuration and driving conditions. In typical driving scenarios, the vehicle primarily uses the rear electric motor, with the front motor engaging during acceleration or when additional traction is required.

The new electric model is not only the largest C-Class ever produced, but also the heaviest, with a curb weight of approximately 2.5 tons, an unusually high figure for a midsize sedan.

Sales in Western markets are scheduled to begin this fall, with pricing in Germany expected to start from €67,000.
