Daihatsu Taft

The Daihatsu Taft is a compact off-roader with a long history, originally launched in 1974 as a rugged, boxy 4x4 built for light-duty work and adventure. Powered by small but torquey petrol and diesel engines, it featured part-time four-wheel drive, a removable roof, and simple, durable mechanicals suited to rough terrain. The name was revived in 2020 for a very different vehicle: a stylish, retro-inspired mini SUV aimed at urban buyers, blending boxy Kei-car proportions with modern turbocharged efficiency, active safety tech, and a spacious cabin, while retaining a nod to its go-anywhere heritage.
